Memorable characters have something in common:

A juxtaposition evolving into a sublimation thus creating nuance.

Examples:

1. Ordinary Joe becomes super-spy (The Filth)
2. Preacher becomes gunslinger possessed (Preacher)
3. Soldier becomes holy man (The Sadhu).

So far I have this: detective goes on the run. The hunger becomes the hunted, probably the oldest juxataposition in the book.

So - strictly rational detective goes a) on the run, b) in search of god, c) by becoming a renegade sufi clown conjuror. Ah, fuck it, I'm going to bed.
