A 25-year research project undergone at the CellTech institute in North London has yielded some unexpected findings, it was announced today. Researchers at the largely secret laboratory located between London’s arse and elbow have proven that Pie can indeed get you high.
After a meeting held at the institute between the CellTech researchers and various members of the United Kingdom National Baking Federation a press release was immediately issued by Downing Street in which it is claimed that Gordon Brown had been aware of this process for several years. A white paper with plans to release Pie on a mass scale was announced with promises that it would be made ready for 2012. The reason for this dramatic shift in focus from the War on Terror to Pie, Gordon Brown concludes, is that Pie has strong role to play in the maintenance of the Gross National Happiness quotient.
The secret? The ingredients and the cooking process used determine the quality of the high in the Pie. While the majority of the population has been cooking their pies in around half an hour, the true flavor of the Pie is not released unless the Pie is cooked in one of two ways:
1. Pie can be slow cooked or stewed moderately for a period of several years, producing a Pie rich in juices that soften the crust and allow a fusion of soft and hard textures to grace the palette with all the virtue of a well-baked saint.
2. Pie can be flashed cooked in around 2 seconds using an ordinary alternating current, dusted with cordite and served over hot coals.
An internet survey conducted by this newspaper revealed the shocking truth that one in two young adults do not know how to cook Pie, resulting in both an escalating crime rate and the profusion of pot holes in down town neighborhoods. Favorite ingredients listed by the 150 participants who took part in the survey included such anomalous items as rocks, bed sheets, traffic police and glass jars, with one or two individuals even citing mildew as their preferred flavoring simply because “it was easy to get hold of”. Perhaps the most startling conclusion drawn by this survey was that the cooking method used by 85% of the sample was “to have my partner make it for me”.
